‘Westerham is a real taste of the country’

Westerham is nestled in the valley of the ancient River Darent in the Sevenoaks district of Kent. With a rich history dating back to the Vikings and Romans, links to famous historical figures and fine countryside on its doorstep, Westerham will welcome you at any time of the year.

Westerham is steeped in the past with many national treasures to explore and a mention in the Domesday Book. Winston Churchill and General James Wolfe, two very famous figures of British History, once resided in this town. Today, their grand homes are maintained by the National Trust and are open to the public with prominent statues of both men found on the town’s green. Hever castle, the childhood home of Anne Boleyn is also only a short drive away and is open for public viewing.

There is plenty to do in and around the area. If the beautiful surrounding fields and woodland of the Kent countryside are not enough, Charts Edge Garden has 10 acres of land with copious varieties of plants and flowers.  Westerham also has its very own brewery established in 2004, restoring the town’s rich brewing heritage. Established in an old dairy farm, the brewery supplies many outlets in the region and has its own bar for visitors to sample a fine selection of ales.

A number of walking trails are found from Westerham to other neighbouring villages. The remains of a tower at the summit of Tower Wood is a local attraction and is past on one of these trails. The tower was either a medieval watchtower or the holding place for Anne Boleyn on her journey to London for trial and execution, depending on which locals you talk to!

Adrenalin junkies will find enjoyment from the local action-packed paintballing centre or to experience more traditional activities, have a go at clay pigeon shooting, archery and falconry.

With beautiful countryside right outside, a rich heritage associated with historical inspirational figures and action packed activities in the area, Westerham is a small town with a lot to offer.
